DONATE TO BUILD OUR
CULTURAL CENTER & MUSEUM OF THE BIPOC DIASPORA
NEW!
The Benefits of a BIPOC-led Museum include:
-
Advocacy: BIPOC-led museums serve as platforms for advocacy and activism, addressing social justice issues and promoting change.
-
Education: They offer educational programs and resources that educate the public about BIPOC history, culture, and contributions.
-
Support: BIPOC-led museums provide support and resources for BIPOC staff, students, and community members, fostering a sense of belonging and inclusion.
-
These benefits contribute to a more equitable and inclusive cultural landscape, allowing BIPOC individuals and communities to thrive and make their voices heard.
African Americans account for about 14% and 1.7% identify as Native American or Alaska Native of the entire American population, according to the Pew Research Center reports. With 36.2 million people with Black cultural heritage, and some 5.2 million people with Native American cultural heritage, how many for identify as Afro-Indigenous? It should follow that many people would want to learn about the African diaspora customs and African & Indigenous traditions. Within 151 U.S. counties, Hispanic, black or indigenous people are the majority race or ethnicity, however, the history of these groups is not properly taught. That is the primary purpose of a cultural center: Our efforts are to develop a cultural center and museum to teach the community about our Afro-Indigenous culture and any culture under the African diaspora through the use of events, festivals, exhibitions and workshops. It will serve as a major resource on the history and culture of African American and Native Americans in the northeast, and those who migrated to the North Fork during the 'Great Migration'.
Foster a sense of Community:
This center will be a great way to understand others within our community. It can act as a hub for the community, celebrating collective heritage and creating a shared sense of place.
Create inclusive Spaces:
This Center will provide a sense of belonging for BIPOC individuals who may feel alienated or invisible in other cultural spaces.
Support Artists:
This Center will offer programs and residencies that provide opportunities and support for artists from underrepresented backgrounds.
Preserve history and culture:
They act as vital repositories for preserving, interpreting, and exhibiting the history and cultural heritage of BIPOC communities.
Provide educational experiences:
They offer educational and often therapeutic experiences for visitors, allowing them to learn and connect with different cultures.
Social and Economic Impact
Counter systemic issues:
They play a crucial role in addressing systemic issues like racism and oppression by offering a counter-narrative to narratives told by dominant groups.
Drive economic development:
Like other museums, they can attract tourists and generate revenue, contributing to local economies and regeneration
